Mayor Xaba Leads School Functionality Programme In Hammarsdale

 MAYOR XABA LEADS SCHOOL FUNCTIONALITY PROGRAMME IN HAMMARSDALE

As part of the eThekwini Municipality’s School Functionality Programme, Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba, together with the Chairperson of Governance and Human Resources, Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala, visited Ukusa Senior Secondary School, in Mpumalanga Township, Hammarsdale, west of Durban. 

The school achieved an impressive 88.8% Matric pass rate in 2025.

Beyond evaluating schools on the first day of the school calendar year, the programme also assesses the number of needy learners who require school uniforms and stationery.

Addressing learners at the school, Mayor Xaba cautioned them against social ills such as teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and crime, which often lead to learners dropping out of school.

School management and learners committed themselves to striving for a 100% pass rate this year.

The Mayor will return to the school next week to hand over school uniforms and stationery to identified learners.
