DURBAN RINGS IN A NEW YEAR WITH A SPECTACULAR CARNIVAL PARADE
The City of Durban proudly hosted a vibrant and successful New Year Carnival Parade along Dr Pixley ka Seme yesterday, 02 January, marking the arrival of 2026 with dazzling festivities, music, and cultural celebration.
The new year was welcomed with vibrant celebration of colour, culture and loads of music performances during a spectacular carnival parade, which captured the heartbeat of the City and showcased its dynamic spirit, creativity and warmth.
The energetic carnival parade procession included uShaka Marine Mascots, Zulu dancers, marching band, segways, bikers, Indian dancers, oMama Besigege, Pantsula Dancers, Ricksha pullers, Rickshaw bus, Metro Police motorbikes and horses, together with endless fun in true Durban style.
Scores of residents and visitors lined the street to witness the colourful procession that showcased the City’s rich cultural diversity.
The atmosphere was electric as families, tourists, and community members joined together in a spirit of unity and joy.
Mayor Cyril Xaba said the parade did not only highlight Durban’s reputation as a hub of culture and entertainment, but also reinforced the city’s commitment to fostering inclusive community events that bring people together.
Mayor Xaba said the parade will be an annual event to attract visitors and tourists to the City.
