FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALL 23 DURBAN BEACHES OPEN AND SAFE FOR SWIMMING
All 23 Durban beaches are open and safe for swimming, according to the latest water quality test results released today, 07 January 2026.
This follows the temporary closure of Laguna Beach after heavy rains that battered the city few weeks ago. The City has managed to swiftly attend to the infrastructure challenges that led to the pollution of the Laguna Beach.
EThekwini Municipality is steadily advancing restoration efforts, bringing our coastal facilities closer to the high standards enjoyed before the April 2022 floods.
We remain committed to ensuring safe, welcoming, and world‑class beach experiences for all residents and visitors during the festive season and beyond.
The status of the City’s beaches is publicly available on the official website at www.durban.gov.za. Bathers can also obtain the latest beach water results on notice boards of all bathing beaches.
