Metal Thieves Vandalised Water Pipeline in Athlone Park
17 April 2015
For immediate release

Steel brackets of a 375mm steel water pipeline in Athlone Park were stolen this morning, 17 April 2015, causing it to collapse.

The affected areas that do not have water supply are Athlone Park, Galleria Shopping Mall, some parts of Orient Hills and the industrial area surrounding the mall.

Water tankers have been dispatched to the affected areas ensuring that they have access to water.
Technical bulk teams are already on site and an emergency order was placed to an external supplier to restore water supply. At this stage, we cannot say when water will be restored as our officials are still on site attending to this matter.

Acts of vandalism taking place in our communities cannot be addressed by the Municipality and police alone. They require vigilance from us as community members and we must not look away when we know that our relatives, neighbours and friends are involved in damaging Council property.

The Municipality urges residents to continue reporting illegal water connections, vandalism or theft of Municipal infrastructure to the number 080 13 13 013, they can email: eservices@durban.gov.za or use the number 43554 to sms or fax 031 311 82 20.

For any water related queries, you can also contact our 24-hour call centre number 080 1313 013.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
