World Class training for EThekwini Metro Officers
 
 
With Easter and school holidays around the corner, the City of eThekwini is partnering with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to provide training to Metro Police officers on High Visibility Enforcement to improve road safety in the City.
 
The training starts on Monday, 26 March at Royal Hotel and will be officially opened by eThekwini Mayor, Councillor Zandile Gumede and UNITAR Associate Director, Estrella Merlos.
 
After being ranked as the most liveable City in South Africa by Mercer Quality of Living report four years in a row, eThekwini would like to be ahead of the rest in improved law enforcement and road safety by providing a world class training programmes to its Metro officers.
 
The training is provided by Dr Othon Sanchez, a former police chief of Mexico City and a founder of Conduce sin Alcohol programme which delivered a 35% reduction in drinking and driving related crashes and fatalities. This is the first time the programme is being delivered outside of Mexico City!
 
With drinking and driving being a major contributor to road carnage in the country, a global spirits company Diageo is also supporting the training. Diageo is a supplier of various brands including Johnny Walker, J&B and Smirnoff and its main production plant in South Africa is at Prospecton (Isipingo) south of Durban.
 
Diageo is committed to addressing drink driving and has a long-running programme called 'Drive Dry'.
