Update on Heavy Rain in Durban

As the rain continues to pour down in most parts of KwaZulu-Natal, residents are urged to remain cautious and limit their outdoor movements.
The Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre anticipates that the current rain storm will subside at about 12h30. Officials are currently monitoring the possible development of more heavy rainfall later today at about 15h00.

Several roads, including M4 Southbound, Margaret Mncadi Avenue (onramp onto M4 south) have been closed. Motorists are urged not to drive into flooded areas and those whose vehicles have been stuck in localised flooding are urged to remain calm and get out of the vehicle. Response teams have been activated to assist where required.

Officials from the Disaster Management Centre are currently collating all information on infrastructure damage, injuries as well as fatalities. Clean-up operations will begin as soon as the storm subsides and when the inclement weather has stabilised.

Residents are requested to please only call the Emergency Management Call Centre for emergencies on 031 361 0000.
