The South African National Defence Force to Host Armed Forces Day 2017 Media Launch in EThekwini on Wednesday, 08 February 2017
 
The President of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) and Commander-in–Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) proclaimed that 21 February each year will be observed and commemorated as Armed Forces Day (AFD). The Chief of the South Africa National Defence Force(C SANDF), General Solly Shoke, has authorised the hosting of the Armed Forces Day Celebration 2017 and the Centenary commemoration of the sinking of the SS Mendi to be held concurrently on Tuesday, 21 February 2017 at Moses Mabida Stadium in eThekwini, KwaZulu Natal Province and the English Channel in England respectively. The proceedings are scheduled to commence at 10h00.
 
As a build-up to the commemoration, the SANDF will host a Media Launch on Wednesday, 08 February 2017, 10h00. The Media Launch will be held at the Durban Natural Science Research Centre situated at 151 K.E. Masinga Road, eThekwini, to announce various activities scheduled as part of the Armed Forces Day 2017 celebrations. The Chief Executor will address the media to give an overview of the Armed Forces Day 2017 celebrations.
 
You are cordially invited to send a journalist and/or a cameraperson to attend and give coverage to the Media Launch.
 
Interested / assigned members of the media based in Gauteng will be flown aboard an SA Air Force aircraft in the morning of Wednesday, 08 February 2017 and back to Pretoria in the afternoon of the same day. Reporting time is 05:30 in the morning at Air Force Base Waterkloof, Centurion.
 
RSVPs must reach Colonel Ronald Maseko on or before Thursday, 02 February 2017 and to include Full name and surname, ID no, media house and contact details. No accreditation is required to attend the media Launch on Wednesday, 08 February 2017.
 
RSVP`s will be treated on a first-response-first seat basis as seating is limited on the aircraft. No exceptions will be made for late RSVPs.
