ETHEKWINI NEWSFLASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sufficient Water Supply Over the Easter Weekend

EThekwini Municipality would like to reassure residents and visitors to the City that there will be sufficient water supply over the Easter weekend.

Officials will be closely monitoring the system to ensure sufficient supply, as consumption is expected to increase given the influx of visitors to the City. Currently the system is as stable as can be.

However, the public is urged to be aware that implemented water restrictions will not be lifted and currently stand at 15%.

We are aware of circulating messages which claim that there will be a 16 hour water shutdown today, 13 April due to a planned maintenance by

Umgeni Water. There is no interruption of supply and we urge the public to not panic as water will be available if there is no pressure on our system as a result of increased demand.

We will endeavour to ensure a stable water supply during the Easter weekend and we urge residents to continue using water sparingly as our dam levels remain low.

They can conserve water by:
• Using the shower instead of the bath;
• Not leaving the tap running when brushing your teeth;
• Using a bucket to wash your car;
• Use of a hosepipe is banned;
• Irrigate your garden using watering cans and secondary water left from washing etc;
• Fix any leaking toilet and tap in your household immediately and;
• Reporting all leaks you see.

The public can report leaks, bursts and water interruptions on the tollfree number 0801313013 or on WhatsApp 0731483477.
