The EThekwini Maritime Cluster, in partnership with the eThekwini Municipality will hold the second annual Maritime Summit which is themed, Connecting Ports, Ships and Communities.

Thus far, in relation to the various segments of the summit, a successful maritime career expo was held where students were given the opportunity to engage with maritime industry experts and also be educated on the various opportunities that exist within the Maritime Sector.

This evening, at the Point Yacht Club, the Regatta will be launched which aims to expose children to sailing. This portrays the commitment by all stakeholders to advance youth and career development.

The conference, to be held next week Monday, 03 March and Tuesday,04 March, will focus on how the maritime sector can contribute to community development and the importance of coherent and connected development across all maritime sectors. Shipping and ports play an important role in helping create employment, prosperity and stability through maritime trade and there are a host of economic benefits which extend far beyond the borders of the port.

Key discussions will take place with maritime industry experts and will center on smart port cities, enterprise development, marine manufacturing, promoting national and marine coastal tourism and promoting radical transformation in the maritime sector.

Members of the media are invited to attend the two day conference.
