Residents Urged to be Cautious This Rainy Weekend
EThekwini residents are urged to be extra careful during this rainy weekend, which might lead to flooding and collapsing of structures.
As the rain continues to pour steadily across many parts of the Municipality, Disaster Management teams are on high alert and ready to provide a rapid response where necessary.
The Disaster Management Centre has reported that at around 4am this morning (25 November 2017) a 32 year old male, 21 year old female and three year old child died when a retaining wall collapsed onto an informal dwelling they were sleeping in at KwaMashu L-Section. Police are investigating the matter. No other major incidents have been reported.
Residents are requested to please only call the Disaster Management Call Centre for emergencies on 031 361 0000.
Power outages
The Municipality is also aware of several parts of the City experiencing power outages due to cable theft. Residents are urged to be patient while technicians work around the clock to restore power in the affected areas. Some of the areas affected are Ensimbini, Magabheni, Lotus Park, Umbumbulu, Woodlands, Berea West, Malukazi, Clermont and KwaMakhutha.
