Recommendations from the Community Services Committee Meeting

The Community Services Committee today, 08 March 2018, held its monthly meeting where various programmes and projects being spearheaded by Units within the committee were discussed.

Grant-In-Aid Programme

The Committee gave authority for the Community Participation and Action Support Unit to call for applications and subsequently distribute Sundry Grant-In-Aid to beneficiaries.

The Municipality’s Grant-In-Aid programme provides support to civil society organisations, giving them resources that would allow them to carry out their duties and improve people’s lives, particularly the disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

The Committee also approved that the Unit sets aside R500 000 to assist four Non-Profit Organisations who have made ad-hoc applications for Grant-In-Aid. The organisations are Child of Africa, Black Diamonds Social Welfare, Olwendumiso Organisation and National Sea Rescue Institution.

Review of stadia tariffs for 2018/19

The committee was appraised of the proposed 2018/19 tariffs for Moses Mabhida Stadium and other stadia within the Municipal area. If adopted by Council, the new tariffs will be effective from 01 July 2018. The new tariffs will apply to the following stadia; Moses Mabhida Stadium, Chatsworth Stadium, King Zwelithini Stadium, Mpumalanga Stadium, Princess Magogo Stadium, Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The programmes approved by the committee will now be tabled at the Executive Committee (EXCO), then Full Council for final endorsement.
