RE- Economic Development Through Sport
EThekwini Municipality will host a career day, under the theme: Economic Development through Sport targeting under 15 Soccer teams in all the regions of the municipality.

This programme has been funded through the UK Commonwealth Local Government Forum.  The event is part of a partnership between the eThekwini Municipality, London Borough of Greenwich and Tema Metropolitan Assembly (Ghana).  The programme aims at supporting local economic development through sport.

Different stakeholders, inluding teriary instiutions, businesses, profesional soccer teams, govertment departments have been invited to attend the event. It has been established that young people lack  guidance in terms of careers and requisite skills yet this is essential as it provides information and supports learners needs to make well thought out choices about their post-school lives.

The Economic Development through Sport initiative seeks to achieve the following following objectives:

•    Assist this young people with information on career, subject choices offered by various institutions around sporting career.
•    Provide young people with the opportunity on programmes to support their development to explore and understand opportunities on sport available to them.
•    To enable youth to see the sport not only as an entainment activity but also as a career.

An exhibiton that will be held to inform the youth about career choices and economic development opportunities in sport, and allow various institutions, companies and government departments to market their services.
