One City One Book Launch: Reclaiming the Soil
The Municipality will launch the 2018/19 edition of the One City One Book Campaign with Rosie Motene’s book, Reclaiming the Soil.
The campaign is an effort by the Municipality to promote the culture of reading and increase the level of literacy in Durban. Citizens of eThekwini are encouraged to read the chosen book, Reclaiming the Soil and subsequently engage with the content and message of the book on various platforms, resulting in a raised interest in reading and a heightened passion for books.
It is also an opportunity to promote and showcase work by local authors.
Reclaiming the Soil is an autobiography by Rosie Motene. Through the book she unpacks her struggles as a young black child having been raised by a Jewish family in Johannesburg. The book describes Motene's journey through her fog of alienation to the belated dawning of her self-discovery as an African child.
