Notice to residents of intermittent power supply
ATTENTION: NEWS DESKS
STATEMENT BY MAYOR JAMES NXUMALO
RE: NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF INTERMITENT POWER SUPPLY

Certain areas in eThekwini are experiencing electricity blackouts or intermittent power supply during this festive season and Mayor James Nxumalo requests all customers to be aware of the power supply interruptions and bear with the City as it tries to resolve the situation.

The power disruptions were as a result of the excessive heat on 25/12/2014 which caused medium voltage cable terminations to fail at our various substations thus disrupting power supply to many areas within eThekwini Municipality.

“We are aware that these power outages are inconveniencing our customers. We are very concerned about this situation and have asked officials to do what is necessary to prevent or limit the disruptions to the power supply. I am pleased that power has been restored to some areas and the teams are working on all the outstanding areas,” says Nxumalo.

The City would like to apologise for delays in our Electricity Call Centre on 25/12/2014 due to the high volume of calls which resulted in long call waiting periods. The City will review call centre operations on the day in question and investigate ways to improve service to our customers.

The City requests all effected customers to bear with us and report power outages to the Electricity Call Centre (080 13 13 111) in order for the teams to speedily attend to the affected areas. Customers are urged to report a fault once and use their allocated reference number to follow up on the progress of their enquiry.

Issued on behalf of the Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr James Nxumalo.
