Due to inclement weather conditions, the Municipality’s Emergency Control and Disaster Management Unit responded to numerous calls today from people seeking assistance.

Preliminary reports indicate a range of damage to structures in the south of Durban, from roof tiles and sheeting being blown off, trees falling to mud houses being damaged. Indications are that the areas most affected by the gale force winds are Chatsworth and Welbedacht.

Emergency services were dispatched to assist where required and the situation is being monitored. Further assessments are still being carried out to categorise the type of assistance required by those affected.

The Municipality urges residents to be alert and stay indoors for safety purposes. The emergency number is 031 361 0000.
