Metro Cop Arrested As EThekwini Clamps Down On Crime And Corruption

EThekwini Municipality’s zero tolerance stance against crime and corruption led to the swift arrest of one of its own members; a Metro Police Constable who was caught and arrested for dealing in cocaine in Wentworth with a street value of over R100 000 on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

This was a joint operation between the Durban Metro Police and the City Integrity and Investigations Unit (CIIU). “The City wants so send out a strong and clear message that no one is above the law. In this case we are dealing with a Council employee, who is a police officer, and he has abused the law and his power, which is unacceptable. We urge the public to report fraud and corruption and perpetrators will be brought to book,” said Head of CIIU, Mbuso Ngcobo.

The Durban Metro Police received a tip-off claiming the man who resides in an upmarket house on the Bluff area, would routinely visit his grandmother in Wentworth to package and sell the drug. The policeman was caught cutting up a block of pure cocaine when police made the arrest.

Issued by the eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.
