Mayor Hosts High Level Meeting to Discuss Issues of Urban Safety

The Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr James Nxumalo was recently appointed as the Convenor and Secretariat of the African Forum on Urban Safety (AFUS). In fulfilling his secretariat mandate, Cllr Nxumalo will host a high level meeting with key stakeholders of AFUS to discuss issues related to crime prevention, urban safety and security. 

There will be discussion around linkages with the African Union Agenda 2063, Sustainable Development Goals and Habit III process. The meeting will also stimulate discussion and provide input into the development of a legal framework which will guide the tripartite partnership involving AFUS, United Nations Habitat and Microsoft Corporation.

Members of the media will have an opportunity to engage with the stakeholders on issues discussed during a media session scheduled to take place after the meeting.

AFUS is a forum of African Mayors that works closely with the United Cities and Local Government Association (UCLG) , Africa and the Africa Union and its subsidiary bodies to enhance the role of local authorities as complementary actors to national governments through the development and implementation of regional guidelines on safer cities.
