Loeries Creative Week Returns To Durban
Loeries Creative Week returns to Durban in August, for the fourth consecutive year. The creative festival takes place from 13 to 19 August. The week, which begins with the judging of around 3,000 entries from across Africa and the Middle East, includes a seminar of international creative leaders, masterclasses, awards ceremonies and many networking events.
“Creative Week is the largest festival of its kind across our region and anyone involved in building brands should be there,” says Andrew Human, Loeries CEO.
“The DStv seminar is the only opportunity to hear such world class leaders speak on one day and I urge everyone in the brand communications industry to attend. And of course, after all the hard work, it’s important to get out of the office and let your hair down.”
Creative Week contributed over R130-million to the Durban economy in 2017, employs around 600 people directly, and creates more than 380 local annual jobs. Around 60 local traders also take part in the Loeries craft market, which focuses on local products, that attracts thousands of visitors. “An event on the Durban promenade enriches the whole community,” adds Human. “While the promenade is only a thin sliver along the waterfront, many thousands of the local community benefit. Every employee servicing an international event like the Loeries takes their income back to the community. This whole economy, reaching into the suburbs and townships is driven by the beachfront. Besides the Loeries, Durban has the opportunity to be the event capital of the continent, which will be a major injection into the local economy.”
