15 April 2015

For immediate release

The Municipality has implemented Stage 2 load shedding as of 06h30 today, 15 April.

Customers are urged to reduce their consumption in order to reduce the severity of load shedding.

The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages. Eskom has assured customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system. Any additional changes on the already vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the stage of load shedding at short notice. This will be communicated if there is a need to change stages

Members of the public are reminded that the Municipality has released a new load shedding schedule which was implemented from 07 April 2015. The Municipality is urging residents to make familiarize themselves with the new schedule so they can be prepared in the event of load shedding.

It seeks to address some of the issues raised by customers and attempts to minimise interruptions and introduce more fairness in the allocation of blocks.

For any electrical faults, residents can contact our 24-hour Electricity Call Centre on 080 13 13 111.

The new load shedding schedule is available on the Municipal website:

Issued by the eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.
