KZN Premier Willies Mchunu to Engage Business at EDGE Seminar

To achieve radical economic growth and empowerment within the region, eThekwini Municipality in partnership with the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will host their first Economic Development and Growth in eThekwini (EDGE) seminar at the Royal Hotel on Thursday, 23 March 2017.

Themed “Where to from here for businesses”, delegates at the seminar will be addressed by the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal ,Willies Mchunu, who will unpack the State of the Nation and Province addresses, delivered earlier this year by President Jacob Zuma and Mchunu respectively.

Other speakers will include Mr Greg Tarrant, the Associate Director, Corporate Tax at PricewaterhouseCoopers-headquartered in London who will reflect on the national budget speech and the Municipality’s Dr Ajiv Maharaj who will speak about the state of the City’s economy.

Chairman of the City’s Economic Development and Planning Committee, Councillor Sipho Kaunda said the aim of the seminar is to provide businesses and other economic stakeholders with a platform to engage the Premier, key decision makers and for relevant experts to reflect on mentioned topics.

“This will ensure that businesses are aware of the issues most relevant to them and collectively come up with strategies on how to drive economic growth and create much needed job opportunities,” added Kaunda.

EDGE seminars are hosted by the Municipality quarterly to provide an opportunity for the City to interact with business on topical issues in the economy, and offer a chance for business to pose questions and voice their opinions to the industry’s captains to radically transform the economy.
