International Forum on Elite Sport Media Briefing

The 10th Association for Sport Performance Centres (ASPC) International Forum on Elite Sport will be taking place in Durban between the 24th-26th August. It will be the first time that the event will be held on African Soil.
The 2017 Forum in Durban will be co-hosted by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), eThekwini Municipality, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport and Recreation and Durban’s Prime Human Performance Institute.
SASCOC President Gideon Sam will be present at the media briefing.
Sydney, Australia hosted the first International Forum on Elite Sport in 1991 and the ASPC has grown substantially since then and now includes over 85 Olympic/Paralympic Training Centres and High Performance Sport Institutes from across the globe, including Prime HPI. These Centres support over 10,000 elite athletes on a daily basis.
The Forum has secured a number of world class speakers from across the globe, including a number of South Africa’s most influential sporting personalities, coaches and trainers. The programme can be found at and includes Gary Kirsten, Amanda Dlamini, Shaun Pollock, Dr Patho Cele-Zondi and Doug Ryder among others.
International speakers include Sports Scientists from FC Barcelona, High Performance Sport New Zealand and the International Olympic Committee, as well as members of the 2016 Rio Olympics committee and the upcoming Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympics organising committees.
2017 Comrades Marathon winner Bongusa Mthembu as well as a number of KwaZulu-Natal's premier athletes will also be in attendance.
