Inaugural Miss EThekwini Municipality
In celebrating Women’s Month and creating an army of young women who will be ambassadors for Durban, the eThekwini Municipality will host the inaugural Miss Ethekwini Municipality at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Arena on Friday, 12 August at 17h30.
The search for Miss Ethekwini Municipality kicked off on 14 July with auditions taking place in various venues around the City. The first audition took place in KwaMashu, where seven young ladies were selected.
The next day the auditions moved to the Bat Centre, where seven girls were chosen out of 32. The following week there was an even bigger turn out at Pinetown and Umlazi where 14 girls were chosen as finalists from both venues.
In total, 28 young girls were chosen to attend a bootcamp at uMsinsi Resorts in Albert Falls where they were trained in on various life skills. Tomorrow, Friday, 12 August, will see the top 18 finalists compete to be crowned Miss eThekwini Municipality.
The City’s Head of Parks Recreation and Culture Unit, Thembinkosi Ngcobo said the Municipality aims to create strong independent young women.
“We want to create young women who are not defined by challenges. Young women who have inner strength and ethical values. The winner of Miss eThekwini Municipality will be an ambassador who will reach out to young people of eThekwini and inform them about opportunities offered by the City,” said Ngcobo.
