Fraud and Corruption to Come Under Spotlight As International Fraud Awareness Week Activities Kickstarts At EThekwini Municipality
This week, 11 -17 November 2018, marks International Fraud Awareness week. In this regard, the eThekwini Municipality in partnership with the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) will be hosting a seminar aimed to create a much needed platform for engagement on issues of fraud and corruption, and encourage all role players to elevate good governance.
South Africa is one of the countries in the global south unceasingly bleeding billions as a result of this unrelenting scourge. This happens at the expense of millions of poor people still waiting for a better life. With the International Fraud Awareness week commencing, eThekwini wants to leave an indelible mark in the world’s endeavour to fight fraud and corruption by seizing an opportunity of sharing ideas with an array of experts due to attend this noble gathering.
The City’s Integrity and Investigations Unit, is a living testimony of the council’s determination to nip fraud and corruption in the bud. Its operations, are dramatically yielding positive results and it continues to bite without fear or favour.
The seminar hopes to among others raise awareness on the extent of fraud and corruption and come up with a comprehensive programme of action to eventually root it out permanently to the benefit of the poor.
The international Fraud Awareness Week is celebrated globally in November each year to draw the attention of the world to this menace in our society.
The media are cordially invited to attend and report on the seminar.
