EThekwini to Host IERM Convention
EThekwini Municipality will host the annual Institute of Environment and Recreation Management (IERM) Convention, scheduled to take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 17-19 September 2018. The Convention will be hosted under the theme, “Public spaces and places – future value, trends and global views”.
The convention will afford experts and relevant stakeholders an opportunity to discuss challenges faced in biodiversity, agricultural and the green environment.
Some of the issues to be discussed over the three-day convention include Arboriculture needs in South Africa, The Power of Play: Creating child-friendly experiences, environments and engagements, Social perception of youth towards biodiversity within protected areas, Introducing landscaping as part of RDP Projects and many more topics.
The convention will provide an opportunity to present research, encourage discussion, share experiences, innovations and approaches in the provision of services for which government authorities are responsible. Papers and discussions will include urbanisation, population growth, rampant development, climate-change and the delay in adapting to these changes as a result of traditional practices within communities.
The IERM is a leading public-sector organisation promoting sustainable and integrated environmental and recreation management practices in South Africa. The organisation is a non-profit, common-law association owned and governed by the municipalities who are its members.
