EThekwini Municipality strongly condemns the illegal protest that took place in Folweni this morning, 11/05/2015.
Community members, this morning blockaded the M35 main road in Folweni which caused major disruptions to the traffic flow. Some school children were negatively affected as could not go to school and some people were unable to go to work due to the main road being closed by burning tyres and broken bottles.
The Municipality urges members of the community not to resort in violent protests but to engage with the municipality about service delivery issues. Negotiations and constructive engagement should be the hallmark of resolving any challenges we face.
A meeting with their appointed community leaders is expected to take place this afternoon, at 17h00 at Folweni Police Station.
Issued by the eThekwini Municipality’s Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.
