EThekwini Municipality Launches Centre of Excellence Where Job Seekers Can Apply for Vacancies Online

A state-of-the-art Human Resource Centre of Excellence will be launched by eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo on 13 July, where job seekers will have access to 50 computers which they can use to search and apply for online vacancies.

Nxumalo said the walk-in Centre of Excellence will empower eThekwini residents and connect them to the world as it is one of the City’s WiFi hotspots where patrons will have free internet connection.

About 52 computers at the centre will be used mainly to train Municipal staff on performance management, employee self-service and E-recruitment, an electronic recruitment system.

This project is in line with the Municipality’s vision to become a Smart City. This vision includes the development of an optical fibre communication backbone to provide citizens with e-services. These e-services include online learning, internet business solutions which includes creating the opportunity for greater bandwidth to be used in a business environment and allow for smaller businesses to benefit from cheaper bandwidth, to name a few.
