EThekwini Geared up to Host World Class Netball Tournament
Netball enthusiasts in Durban will be treated to world-class netball when the reigning world champions, Australia as well as second and third ranked New Zealand and England join our national pride, the Spar Proteas in the much anticipated Quad Series scheduled to take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) on 28 and 31 January 2017.
On Saturday, 28 January 2017, Australia and New Zealand will battle it out on the netball court at 15h00. This will be followed by the Spar Proteas vs England clash at 17h00. Then on Tuesday 31 January the Spar Proteas will play Australia at 19h00.
To introduce the squads of the various teams and unpack the programme of the tournament, a media briefing is scheduled for Thursday, 26 January 2017 at the ICC (Meeting Room 12) at 14h00. The briefing will be led by Officials from Netball South Africa, eThekwini Mayor, Cllr Zandile Gumede as well as coaches and captains of the Australian Diamonds, New Zealand Silver Ferns, England Roses and the Spar Proteas.
EThekwini Mayor, Cllr Zandile Gumede, said, “As the people of eThekwini we are honoured and excited to host the 2017 Netball Quad Series in our home soil. Our City has become a home of netball as we have hosted a number netball tournaments including; the Spar National Netball Championships and the Spar Challenge. We would also like to thank Netball South Africa for trusting us with the hosting of this world-class tournament. It is our mandate as a caring Municipality to create a conducive environment for netball to prosper as this creates life changing opportunities for our children, like Bongiwe Msomi, who is part of the national team.”
