EThekwini Emergency Services to Host Grinder Challenge to Determine Toughest Fire Fighter
Fire-fighters from various organisations around the country will have their skills tested when they participate in the intensive 2017 Grinder Challenge. The initiative by the Municipality Fire and Emergency Services Unit will see over 100 fire-fighters battle it out to be crowned the 2017 Toughest Fire-fighter.
Exciting and adrenalin-pumping challenges will include Hose Drag, where participants are expected to pick up branches to extend the lines of hose to 80-90m; Tower, where fire-fighters will climb up a tower while carrying a 25kg foam drum. Other activities are the simulated victim drag and running up a 23 storey staircase. There are various prizes to be won for the different challenges. These include trophies, medals, holiday vouchers, safety sunglasses and various hampers.
The challenge is aimed at not only testing and showcasing the physical and mental strength of fire-fighters, but also build team-spirit and boost morale.
Members of the media and the public are invited to come and witness fire-fighters simulate how they save lives and preserve property on a day-to-day basis.
