EThekwini Disaster Team on Standby
 
The EThekwini Municipality Disaster Management team is monitoring water levels in the rivers and streams, following heavy rains that started on Sunday, 24/07/2016, causing flooding to homes and roads around the City.
 
As water levels rise many residents face the possibility of having their homes flooded.
 
The most affected area is KwaMashu, where houses have been flooded, and people have been accommodated in the local hall.
Mayor James Nxumalo has advised residents to be cautious during this period.
 
“We advise community members to refrain from crossing low-lying bridges and to avoid streams. We are monitoring areas around the City that are prone to flooding.
 
The South African Weather Service has predicted that rains will continue until Tuesday, 26/07/2016, afternoon. For emergencies and flooding, residents are urged to call the Disaster Management Centre on 031 361 0000.
