EThekwini Conducts Free Male Circumcision Procedures

EThekwini Municipality’s Health Unit, in partnership with various organisations, has started a campaign to conduct free medical male circumcision procedures for males over the age of 10.

Circumcision is a safe and hygienic way of reducing the risks of sexually transmitted infections. It results in approximately 60 percent reduction in the risk of HIV transmission and other life threatening diseases such as cervical cancer in women.

When coming for the procedure, patients must bring their South African identity document or birth certificate. Parents bringing their children are also required to bring a form of identification. An affidavit is required if the surname of the minor does not correspond with that of the guardian or parent.
