EThekwini Celebrates Library Week

Librarians across the country will be celebrating South African Library Week from 19-25 March 2018. This year’s theme is Libraries: Heart of the Community, reminding everyone that libraries offer more than just books for people in their communities

The theme “Libraries: heart of the Community” re-emphasizes the idea that libraries belong to the community and are central to it. All libraries, whether it is a school, public, academic or special library, are at the heart of their communities. They offer vital resources to address community needs and are places where the community gathers.

EThekwini Municipal Libraries will host a variety of activities in all the Municipal Library branches under the chosen theme throughout the week. Communities are encouraged to participate in these activities as we continue with our quest to promote reading and contribute towards the creation of a literate society. The Municipality’s Libraries and Heritage Department will then end the week with a mega celebration on Friday, 23 March 2018 at Ehlanzeni Community Hall in Emagabheni. The Municipality has chosen Emagabheni to host the celebration as part of its strategy to reach the far-lying areas of eThekwini.
