The City recently approved the Durban Investment Promotion Strategy which aims to facilitate sustainable investment in Durban through expansion, retention and aftercare of the existing multi-national investors. It also targets attractions for significant new foreign direct investment.

The establishment of the forum will ensure that these strategies, aimed to better position the City as an investment destination, are implemented.  The forum will also provide an advisory role and support City leadership with investment promotion related development policies, strategies and optimal practices for the City.

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the formation of the forum is a strategic intervention by City leadership to identify investments gaps and create ways of facilitating direct investments to the City. “It will help us to provide necessary resources and programmes that will improve the development of skills and enhance the state of our economic and employment opportunities,” said Mayor Gumede.

“This independent forum which includes business, academia, and private and government experts will also coordinate linkages for existing local businesses with new economic and trading partners abroad. It will also assist local companies to access international markets,” she said.

Mayor Gumede added that the City leadership implemented the independent body as a way of fast tracking economic transformation and introducing new innovative processes to address socio economic challenges while attracting new investment.
