Durban Upbeat About the Easter Holidays
Durban Tourism is optimistic about this year’s Easter holidays and expecting the tourists’ activity to generate billions into the economy of the City. Mayor, Cllr Zandile Gumede, said the City expects more than 360 000 visitors to Durban, which is expected to generate R870m in direct spend and an estimated R1.5bn into the City’s economy. This is expected to create and sustain more than 3100 jobs,” she said.
“As it stands, our hotel occupancy rate is sitting at an average 70% and we are confident that these numbers will grow as we move closer to the Easter period,” added Gumede.
The City is optimistic that their marketing efforts will yield positive results and see the hospitality and tourism sector play a big role and inject billions into the economy of the City.
Furthermore, the City goes to this year’s Easter period with a number of new tourism products like the Station Road precinct and a number of new restaurants in and around our townships and along the beach promenade.
“These new products will give our visitors a variety of choices in terms of places to visit, activities to do and adventures to undertake. This helps a lot in terms of extending the stay of our visitors in the City. This will then have a positive impact in the coffers of the City as it would mean an increased spend from our visitors,” explained Gumede.
This boom is expected to be propelled even further by the lined up of many major events that will be hosted in Durban during this period.
“Our message to those who will be coming to Durban for their Easter break is that they must brace themselves for a time of their lives. We have put together a number of nice packages as part of our Funseason campaign, to ensure that people will have a memorable experience during their stay in Durban. To those that have not made up their minds as yet, I would encourage them to visit our website and view these packages and make that booking, Durban is the place to be this Ester,” she exclaimed.
