Businesses that wish to showcase at the main Durban Business Fair (DBF) taking place at the Durban Exhibition Centre from 13 – 18 October 2015, have until this Friday,11/09/2015, to register.

This inspiring business event, which has been a resounding success for the past 17 years, is a great platform for exhibitors to access new markets enabling them to expand and be more creative and innovative, to enhance their business.

This year’s DBF under the theme: “Connecting Durban Business Fair Globally”, will be much more spectacular, as eThekwini Municipality has partnered with the City of New Orleans from the United State of America, and will include a three-day Essence Empowerment Festival.

Deputy Mayor and Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee, Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala said the partnership with the City of New Orleans is an effort to connect young entrepreneurs in the City with international industry players. This will help them to learn new trends in order to remain competitive.

“One of the components that lead to business failure is lack of information and innovation. The Essence Empowerment Festival will assist Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises learn new ways of sustaining their businesses even during the economic slump,” she said
The Essence Empowerment Festival which will run in conjunction with the DBF programme will include empowerment seminars, career guidance, parenting corner, youth desk, entertainment that will include exchanging knowledge with international and local filmmakers, as well as those in music, fashion, beauty industries.

Shabalala added that the Municipality is proud of the positive impact this programme has made and that the City is starting to see returns of investment. An estimate of 8000 jobs have been created through the DBF and a collective of 25 businesses that participated in the DBF last year make an estimated R75 million annual turnover which is evidence that this platform is significant for their growth.
