Durban A Ccapella Group Tops World Music UK Charts
EThekwini Mayor Councillor James Nxumalo congratulates the world renowned Durban a ccapella group and the three times South African Music Awards nominees, Afrika Mamas for moving up to number two in the World Music UK : New Release and number four in the World Music USA: Caribbean African Music charts this week.
Afrika Mamas have been great ambassadors of the City of Durban as they have toured countries such as China, UK, Sweden, Spain, and Burkina Faso, performing their “Mbube style” a cappella music, closely associated with the singing style of the legendary Grammy multi-award winning a cappella group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Africa Mamas’ music is played in over 224 radio stations worldwide. They were recently interviewed on BBC World Service which has over 265 million listeners during the International Women’s Day.
Nxumalo also congratulated the group for the release of their third album that will be launched at the Durban Playhouse on 8 July 2016. Their new album is a collection of 12 emotive and spirited a cappella songs from African traditional to contemporary originals. Currently their album is one of the best sellers in I Tunes UK: New Music and they were rated number 4 in the world by the World Music Magazine, Songline.
