EThekwini Municipality has been advised by the national power utility, Eskom that the country is in a Load Reduction Early Warning from 10h00 to 22h00 today, 07/01/2015.

The loss of an additional 1200 Megawatt is likely to require a load reduction.

Therefore, we urge all our customers to please switch off all non-essential equipment and appliances. We also appeal to all to participate by reducing electricity usage to avoid having to declare an emergency or invoke load shedding and/or load curtailment.

If Eskom declares load shedding nationally, eThekwini will also be affected and we will therefore communicate with our customers as and when that happens. At this stage Eskom has not informed the Municipality that there will be load shedding or how many megawatts need to be saved.

However, we continue to urge residents and businesses to implement electricity saving measures at all times to help reduce constraints on the power system.

The Municipality will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms.
