City partners with  The Pavilion Shopping Centre to Conserve Water

In keeping with its mandate to ensure the sustainable use of water, the City has forged a partnership with The Pavilion Shopping Centre to increase awareness of the need to value water and to use it wisely.

South Africa has experienced a prolonged period of lower-than-normal rainfall over the past few years and the City has since been critically affected by the drought situation. The Pavilion has joined the City to urge residents to use water responsibly and to reduce water consumption as much as possible.

The City’s partnership with The Pavilion comes at a time when the Centre is transforming its rest-rooms into modern, vibrant facilities which will cater for the needs of the shoppers, whilst optimising energy efficiency.

“The upgrade has been planned along smart, environmentally responsible building principles,” says Nisha Kemraj, General Manager of The Pavilion. “Through this valuable partnership with the city, we are able to assist in creating awareness of sustainable practices amongst the youth and in the communities in which we operate,” she said.

The City, together with The Pavilion Shopping Centre invites members of the media to a Water Wise weekend where about 20 high schools in eThekwini will present and demonstrate eco-friendly ways to help reduce water usage. During this weekend, Municipal officials will be available for shoppers to raise any utility service related queries like electricity, water, rates and revenue.
