City Opens Wyebank Temporary Garden Transfer Site

EThekwini Municipality wishes to inform the public that the Wyebank Garden Landfill Site, located on 1 Fernleigh Road, has reached its capacity and can no longer accept waste for disposal.

The City’s Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit has in the interim converted the Wyebank site into a temporary Garden Transfer Site, until environmental legislative requirements are approved.

The new temporary garden site has been designed to service the residential community of the western areas by placing skips on-site to assist the community to dispose of their garden refuse correctly. Residents are encouraged to use their own vehicles to transport the refuse to the site. On arrival, staff members will direct them to the correct area to drop off their waste.

The temporary garden site is strictly for garden refuse only and each resident is allowed to dispose one load per week of a standard bakkie volume.

Regrettably, contractors can no longer be accommodated and their vehicles are no longer permitted onto the garden site. They are requested to dispose of their waste at any of the following DSW Landfill Sites:

• Bisasar Road Landfill, located on Dhulam Road, just off Electron Road, Springfield,
• Mariannhill Landfill, located on Landfill Road which can be accessed from Rudloff/Abbot Francis Road off Richmond Road, Pinetown,
• Buffelsdraai Landfill, located on Buffelsdraai Lane accessed from Oakford Road/Todd Street, just outside of Verulam and,
• Shallcross Garden Landfill, located on Das Rashan Street, Shallcross.

For more information about the Wyebank Garden Site and landfill sites, residents can call DSW’s Customer Helpline on 031 311 8804.
